Delusions And Moral Choices- Oil And Water

What happens when cancer infects a healthy organism? Simply stated that organism begins to break down. Sooner or later, without intervention, the organism dies.

The same thing happens when dysfunctional values are allowed to infect a healthy society. Sooner or later, without intervention, that soceity will pay a terrible price.

Dr Sanity’s, Who Would Have Believed It, is short but succinct look at the cost of dysfunction.

First, she states the obvious:

Slowly and almost imperceptably, the liberal left has morphed into the lunatic left. They have abandoned most of the liberal legacy that gave them emotional consistency and moral clarity; and instead, they have embraced positions that would have been completely inconceivable to imagine just a few short years ago…

It is this philosophy, slowly absorbed, that is responsible for the left abandoning any pretense at traditional liberalism, which used to champion the rights of the individual over the state. And it is the illogical and irrational tenets of postmodern philosophy that are at the heart of the moral and intellectual rot that has poisoned the liberal left and allowed its lunatic fringe undisputed center stage. Is it any wonder that they are not only comfortable with, but consciously (the leadership) and unconsciously appease and enable Islamic totalitarianism?

Of course, the ‘money shot’ is in an earlier post she has penned, The Four Pillars Of The Socialist Revival And The Rise Of Islamofacism:

Observe how easily Islam has been able to subvert key Western values–such as freedom of speech and expression–with a degree of invincibility and outraged virtue, capitalizing on a tactical opportunity that they have never before had in history. Multiculturalism and political correctness are two of the fundamental pseudo-intellectual, quasi-religious tenets– along with a third: radical environmentalism–that have been widely disseminated by intellectuals unable to abandon socialism even after its crushing failures in the 20th century. These tenets have been slowly, but relentlessly absorbed at all levels of Western culture in the last decade or so–but primarily since the end of the Cold War…

Clearly, we have managed to insult some of the most dysfunctional, racist and bigoted creatures on the face of the earth. Instead of being proud of our morality and taking a stand, we are apologizing for free speech and for the right to defend ourselves.

What’s wrong with this picture?

It isn’t just about terrorists or radical agendas, of course.

How often have we heard the expression ‘you are known by the company you keep’?

Tony Blair went to Lebanon and is abused by many Lebanese, including Hassan Nasrallah, because he is perceived to have supported the Israelis.

In fact, there could be no greater testament to the morality of Mr Blair, than being despised by the bigoted and racist likes of Hassan Nasrallah and other Lebanese politicians.

If the Lebanese were so moral and rightious, why was Al Manar, the Hizbollah TV network allowed to broadcast racism and bigotry?

If the Lebanese were so moral and rightious, where were the condemnations of Hassan Nasrallah’s racism and bigotry? He once noted, with great satisfaction, that he was glad the Jews came to Israel- ‘It saves us the trouble of rounding them up.’ That George Bush, Tony Blair and Israel are so excoriated by the likes of these racists, bigots and dysfunctionals, is a testament to their credibilty and their morality.

That the left has so much hate that they would support the likes of these bigots, speaks volumes about the left. They cannot see what they have become, as they parrot and embrace the words and ideas of some of the world’s great bigots, racists and failures. They are like pigs rolling in filth- unaware of the stench of their surroundings. That filth, hate have become home. The dysfunctionality is so profound that they cannot recognize reality from delusion.

They have rendered themselves irrelevant in a moral world- and that is why they so deperately need to change moral America into immoral America, in the same way Europe abandoned it’s morality for something far less substantive.

You can’t make moral choices if you live in a world of delusion.

It’s The ‘Terror Tax,’ Not The Patriot Act, That Is The Problem

Life isn’t so complicated.

There area couple of millions of Muslims in America, a small number of whom are terrorists or terrorist sympathizers who would willingly aid terrorists. There are a handful of McVeigh-type whackjobs, too.

Added security costs, in the form of the Office of Homeland Security and other agency budgets directly related to post 9/11, are well in excess of 250 billion dollars per year.

And that’s just in America. Total European and world expenditures are many times that amount.

Imagine what good could be done if we didn’t have to spend that money.

Of course, there are other ‘terror taxes.’

Any country or city that wishes to host an Olympic Games has to factor in added security costs of Olympic proportions. That cost is passed on, in the form of higher ticket prices. Want to go to the Super Bowl or other major events? Forget about bringing in water bottles, sandwiches or other food items. Now, you’ll have to buy those refreshments at inflated prices at stadium prices.

Arrive at the airport a few minutes late, and you aren’t going anywhere. There may be ways for you to spend your time more productively, but in the end, you are going to be standing in line, subject to ever increasing security checks.

OK, so you don’t fly much, you say, so that kind of ‘terror tax’ doesn’t really affect you?

Suppose you are in traffic, near the airport, when a security alert is called. Traffic is tied up for miles- and hours.

Suppose you need to call the police to report a crime- and find out the response will be a bit longer than you’d like because there are terror threats against Jewish schools or synagogues, or because police are investigating cemetery desecrations.

Still don’t get it?

Office cleaning crews don’t want to work in tall buildings any more. Tall buildings and the people in them, may be terror targets. The fact is, even not so tall buildings, around the tall buildings, are targets, too.

In August, the additional dollar cost for dealing with already costly airport security in the United Kingdom was in excess of 24 million dollars. That’s for one month.

Students, business people, service people and tourists all take public transportation, like they do in Madrid.

Terrorists don’t give a damn about who they kill or how many they kill. They don’t care when they kill their own and they certainly don’t care when anyone else is rendered into ‘pink mist.’

Terror isn’t going away- and neither will the ‘terror tax.’ Unless and until we recognize that it is the terror tax and what that really represents, and not the Patriot Act, that is the problem.

Some things really are that simple.
