Congressional Drivel, Media Drivel And Pesky Reality

The opposition in Congress are bound and determined to convince the American people that our involvement in Iraq has been the source of a mushrooming global terror threat. In addition, we are told that as long as we maintain a presence in Iraq, terrorists will keep us in their sights.

Of course, this is all mindless drivel, designed to appeal to those with attention spans best suited for sitcoms and reality TV episodes.

The war in Iraq had nothing to do with escalating levels of terror and the increasing number of terrorists. The only difference the war on terror and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have made is to expose the escalating rot and dysfunction that was already there. In fact, these groups and organizations have been engaging in terror and mayhem long before 9/11 or the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Our being in Iraq has not escalated the terror threat against us. We were no more loved and no less of a target by Al Qaeda before we went into Iraq. The terror threat has been escalating for years.

It is also important to understand the nature of the terror in Iraq. Virtually all Iraqis are sick and tired of the ongoing carnage in their country. Terror in that nation is being perpetrated by terrorists (indoctrinated religious miscreants) coming from other countries that have never had great love for the US and democracy.

These newly minted dysfunctional terror misfits are encouraged to go into Iraq by equally dysfunctional educational and religious authorities that have portrayed the murder of Kafirs as a religious obligation for decades. When these homicidal lunatics make their way into Iraq (usually via Syria, another monument to dysfunctional regimes), they end up mostly killing fellow Muslims, even as they claim to be fighting the hated kafirs.

The Generation Jihad misfits we are forced to deal with now, are the creation of Saudi sponsored and funded textbooks that polluted a generation and were even more vicious and ugly than they now. Government controlled Arab newspapers were replete with lurid stories of Jews using the blood of Christians to bake Passover food and Purim cakes. Throughout much of the Islamic world, Jews and Christians are referred to as sons of ‘monkeys and pigs,’ with escalating regularity prior 9/11. Not even in the post 9/11 world can Islamic educators be bothered to be more discreet with their visceral bigotry.

Prior to 2001, as it is today, anti Jewish and anti Christian sentiment was as pronounced as ever, with even more explicit calls to ‘Slaughter the Jews!’ or ‘Slaughter the Americans!‘ broadcast on Arab world and Palestinian media. Those calls are repeated today and remain embedded in Arab world school curricula. They are reinforced from many religious pulpits. Anti Jewish and anti Christian sentiment and conspiracy theories are routine fodder in Pakistan today (a country with no Jews). The climate is not different than it was before 9/11.

What the media won’t discuss is that most Iraqis, like civilized people everywhere, want nothing more than to live in peace in freedom. Most Iraqis, like civilized people everywhere, abhor terror and those who commit terror. In the case of terror in Iraq, it is no surprise the media have gone to great lengths avoiding that kind of reality.

The media have lionized and sanctified figures like Che Guevara, Castro, Mao, and Ho Chi Minh, butchers of millions and ‘People’s Leaders.’ It is not unexpected that the media would refer to terrorists as ‘insurgents,’ so as to elevate their status to that of a political adversary as opposed to the criminals they really are.

In speaking of the media and their assignation of insurgent status on terrorists, we wrote

That is a bald faced lie.

Terrorists do not regard their political ideologies as primary considerations. For them, it is about power and nothing else. In Iraq and other parts of the Middle East, the power grab by terrorists might be draped in religious garb, but in fact, there is no pretense of political respectability. There are no ‘insurgent representatives’ at the UN claiming to represent the people of Iraq. There are no examples of the terrorists in Iraq that declare national unity as an ideal and there is no pretense of offers to help anyone via social services or programs.

The terrorists are not rallying people to their cause or orchestrating mass demonstrations to bring attention to their cause, as would a political ‘insurgent.’ There are no dramatic and sympathetic leaders paraded in front of willing cameras and their are no legions of ’spin doctors’ appearing on FNC or CNN. There are no discernible liberation movements- only movements that openly proclaim their love of Islam and their love for death (most often directed at other Muslims)…

Nevertheless, the media insist on characterizing events in Iraq as a ‘civil war.’

If Hillary Clinton is right, and Bill really didn’t know Al Qaeda and Osama bin Laden were a real threat to the America homeland and Americans, then he, his administration and the entire Democrat Party owe Oliver North a huge apology- and have proved beyond a doubt that Democrats have little credibility in assessing intelligence. During Ronald Reagan’s tenure in office, North testified under oath that he believed Al Qaeda and similar groups were direct threats to the Americans and the Homeland. Colonel North even predicted a terror attack. He was excoriated and dismissed, ridiculed by the Democrats and later by the Clinton Administration. If he weren’t, his warnings that terror was someday going to come to our shores would have been taken seriously.

So much for earnest finger pointing changing reality.

(As an aside it would appear that many leftists are attracted to a more simple, back to an ‘off the grid’ lifestyle because that eliminates TV and videotape records. Reality would be whatever Mother Earth and crystals was revealed in a dream just prior to the Vernal and Autumnal Equinox celebrations. The messages they receive from the ’spirits’ of the ancestors, as they dance nude around a huge bonfire, are very different from believing in a God that demands responsibility and accountability.)

The Anchoress has a signature expression she uses, when she exposes the hypocrisy of the media and the left, even as they refuse to acknowledge reality. She likes to say, ‘Facts, Shmacts….’ She last uses that phrase in a blistering reality assault in her post, Clinton Versus Condi… The post is a keeper:

Clinton is not the right president to prove a “liar.” The press wants desperately to bring down a president, but Clinton is not the one. And so, facts-schmacts, the only facts that matter are the ones the master can pull out of thin air.

Lastly, a story in Time Magazine about Israel and the Palestinians while back drew our ire because of the author’s assertions and falsehoods. As The Anchoress says, ‘facts, shmacts, who needs facts?’

The article states that the west should recognize the Hamas government (openly committed to Israel’s destruction and the elimination of Jews) because it was democratically elected. As we have said many times, Adolph Hitler, too, was elected by a democratic election process. Simply being voted into office does not confer moral standing to any government. Had the west rebuffed and then eliminated Hitler after he was elected, 50 million lives would have been saved.

The only thing the election of Hamas proved was that the proud racist, genocidal and hateful agenda of Hamas, was warmly embraced and received by the Palestinians and the Arab world. Like the German volk, before them, the Palestinians have made their choice and have received the approval of other documented racist, bigoted dysfunctional like minded Arab regimes. In the end, it will be they who will pay the price as they follow Hamas in lockstep into an ideology that will never be accepted by the civilized world. That the Arab world conferred solemn and serious status on Hamas, the Palestinian Nazi Party, in the recent meetings in Mecca, only highlights the profundity of the cancer that has infected the Arab world.

The Time article also speaks of Palestinian rejectionism:

…a widely held belief among Palestinians that “Yasser Arafat and the PLO recognized the State of Israel in the Oslo agreement and what did they gain from that? Only suffering and misfortune”….the settler population in the West Bank actually doubled during the Oslo years.

Guess what?

Further, UN Resolution 242 does not require Israel to pull back to pre 1967 borders. The Resolution calls for the establishment of ’secure and recognized borders.’ Neither does 242 require Israel cede territory back to the Palestiniansprior to a peace treaty. The Resolution is quite clear- land for peace, not land before peace.

In an article in the Beirut Daily Star on June 12, 1974, Lord Caradon and one of the original drafters of 242, said that,

“It would have been wrong to demand Israel return to its positions of 4 June 1967 because those positions were undesirable and artificial. After all, they were just the places the soldiers of each side happened to be the day the fighting stopped in 1948. They were just armistice lines. That’s why we didn’t demand the Israelis return to them and I think we were right not to.”

Ah, pesky reality.

Global Warming, Acolytes And Barack Obama

As usual Kate, of Small Dead Animals, manages to come through with clarity.

In y2Kyoto:Pushback, Kate highlights the “chilling effect” global warming has on free speech. She also takes note of the “…experiment that hints we are wrong on climate change,” the curious pathology of “pack journalism” and sanctity of the new Revelation.
