The biblical account of Creation takes up all of 600 words.

Whether you believe the account is literal or allegorical or even if you don’t believe in the divinity of the story at all, there is no question of the impact the story has influenced our culture and society like no other.

In age when words are expended by the millions every hour in an attempt to give an identity to what is true and what isn’t, it is all the more astonishing that those 600 words continue to have such profound impact.

Truth is a funny thing. Ask any scientist, mathematician or child. They will tell you that once understood, truth is succinct, clear and remarkably self explanatory.

There are also those for whom truth is anathema, because the truth nullifies and disqualifies their beliefs. To those people, the truth becomes an adversary- and the battle against truth becomes ferocious, indeed. For them, truth becomes a zero-sum game. We have it all, you have none. That inevitably evolves into a ‘we are light, you are darkness’ meme.

We are by no means complete and unqualified supporters of this administration. We have our issues with many policies of this administration and they way they are implemented, for sure. Still, there is no reasonable opposition that makes those cases. Instead, the opposition (such as it is), prefers instead to attack the truth and our leaders not with reasonableness, but rather with an ugliness and vitriol that would normally be reserved for the likes of the worst humankind. By doing just that, they negate any and all credibility they might have had.

Mr Bush is absolutely right when he says that all people deserve to live in freedom. His political adversaries gain nothing when they avoid that truth and attempt to undermine it. Mr Bush is also right when he labels those who stand against those for whom freedom and self determination would be undermined, as evil men. It is clear that those willing to slaughter others to preserve their own positions of power are evil. There is no middle ground, there is no ‘other opinion,’ despite the attempts of many, using more millions of words, to create just such ‘truths.’ Those who refer to such evil men as the ‘opposition’ that offer up an ‘alternative’ political agenda or as ‘freedom fighters,’ only serves to highlight the depravity of those willing to usurp the truth.

The administration’s adversaries are now picking up on the words of  anyone that challenge their credibility, even if that challenge has no  real merit. The NIE, reviled because of prewar estimates are now embraced with religious fervor because they reversed themselves again when it comes to Iran’s nuclear weapons program. Joe Biden, the Democrat Senator from Delaware with a long and well documented history of plagiarism and similar offenses, is afforded media prime time because he referred to the president as a serial liar.

Mr Bush made minority education a priority as Governor of Texas, and he succeeded in raising the level of Texas schools. That truth was acknowledged as minority voters supported Mr Bush in his reelection bid for the Austin Governor’s Mansion. No one is saying he has all the right answers, but the proof is in the pudding. More minorities got into and graduated from colleges as a result of better education policies.

In his political campaigns, he addressed the ‘velvet discrimination of lowered expectations,’ and he struck a chord among minority voters, who voted for him in unprecedented numbers.

Mr Bush is hated because with few words, he conveys the truth.

It is interesting to note how many more words were expended to dissuade and hide those truths.

Still, as we said, “Truth is a funny thing. Ask any scientist, mathematician or child. They will tell you that once understood, truth is succinct, clear and remarkably self explanatory.” No matter how hard the effort or how many words are expended, the truth cannot be expunged from reality.
